What is an Attic?
The small section made between the roof and the last floor of the building is called the attic. While the attic is being built, attention should be paid to thermal insulation, ventilation and lighting in order to create a comfortable living space or storage area.
A significant part of the heat loss in buildings occurs through the roof. Care is taken to coat the attic in order to keep the roof warm in the winter and not too hot in the summer. In addition, thermal insulation is not only an element of comfort, but also a legal obligation that covers the roof. Sheathing is obligatory in areas larger than 50 m2.
Is the Attic a Common Area?
According to the Condominium Ownership Law, the roof is one of the common areas. In duplex buildings, the penthouse may belong to the person who owns the real estate. However, for any change to be made on the roof, the common decision of the residents of the apartment is sought. In a roof renovation, the residents and the attic owner share the costs.
