What is Drainage?

Drainage is a water discharge system applied around the building to remove ground or surface water from buildings. A drainage system is installed to ensure moisture and water insulation in the buildings and prevent ground damage. However, drainage is not a substitute for waterproofing applied to the building foundation. It helps waterproofing to last longer. This makes the building more resistant to underground water pressure.

It is generally applied in structures in these regions due to the fact that buildings built on impermeable soils are more exposed to groundwater. There are two types of drainage systems, internal and external. External drainage is made to the foundation walls around the building. Internal drainage, on the other hand, is applied in cases where external drainage is not possible or there is a problem of water coming between two structures in adjacent buildings.
