What is a Mezzanine Floor?
The mezzanine floor is a building element that is built depending on certain conditions. It can be made in sections with a distance of at least 5.50 meters between the floor and the ceiling. Its height must be at least 2.40 meters. It is connected to the floor by a ladder and can occupy up to half of the floor area. It can be designed to be at a maximum distance of 3 meters from the facade of the building facing the road.
This structure can be used for many purposes. It is mostly designed to be an open space, not like a room. It is mostly included in the building plan in offices, bungalows and workplaces that serve crowded groups of people (restaurants, cafes, etc.).
The mezzanine floor is divided into three in terms of design:
Ceiling supported mezzanine:
Structure; It is suspended from the ceiling with the help of steel rope, ship rope or iron profiles. The structures to be made of this type should be hung with materials that can support the weight they will carry. It is mostly seen in houses and offices or bungalow-style buildings.
Beam supported mezzanine:
It is designed to be connected to the wall beams on three sides. It is widely used in show halls and cafeterias.
Column supported mezzanine:
It is constructed by placing support columns attached to the ground under the structure. In addition to support columns attached to the floor, a wall beam can also be used for supporting. It is widely used in mosque design.
